Page 1 of 2 Descendants all across Canada…. We need your support more than ever.
With 2009 approaching fast, we must combine our strength as a united body to gain the much needed respect and recognition for the British Home Children by the Canadian Government. Do not let the election stand in your way. We recommend that you not only write letters to ask for this support, but use this election to face the candidates head on with your request for support. It is likely that a number of the government representatives are still in the “dark” so to speak, of the Immigration scheme that brought over 100,000 children to our Country. So apply what you know and where you stand on this declaration project so that all of Canada will be made aware of the importance of this dedicated Year. The New Brunswick (Canada) Middlemore Atlantic Society held their annual reunion on Saturday Sept. 20th in Fredericton NB, for Home Children & Descendants of British Home Children. It was a very gratifying day for the attendance to hear the words of NB’s, Honorable TJ Burke with his announcement that preparations are underway for November to see and hear resolutions read in Legislature for the Province’s declaration of 2009 Year of the BHC. With two of our Maritime Province’s showing this support, it is hoped that individuals, organizations, Historical Societies, and any other supporting groups across Canada and even the United States citizens, will take this notice and apply their knowledge and expertise to help achieve the 2009 Declaration. We have heard from so many individuals across Canada, that have made this request and up to this point in time, every letter has meant a great deal to the organizers of our Society and the original organizing body for the 2009 project, the Nova Scotia Home Children & Descendants Association. Your efforts are so greatly valued. With each letter arriving at the desk of Hon. Diane Finlay, it is sure to make an impression that we are not about to give up. So please take a few minutes from your day to write a letter, call your local constituents, call your local press…. See if they will help out in this ongoing request to honor our Heritage. I live in the USA, however I would like to sound off about how my grandfather helped to build many many roads, farms and communities etc in Lower Quebec, Canada.
My grandfather lived in England from 1877-1892 (14years).
He lived in Canada from 1892-1909 (17 years)
and in the USA from late 1909-1933 (23 years)
Thank you
